Web Sites for Department of Natural Resources Friends Groups

The following best practices for Web sites of friends groups and similar partners of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will enable the department to include links where appropriate from the DNR site.

  1. Make it clear that the page is maintained by the organization, not the DNR.
  2. Include contact e-mail address(es) (and possibly phone numbers and US mail addresses) where people can report problems with the site and get more information.
  3. On the organization's home page, include a link to the related DNR Web page (such as the park page, state parks system page or DNR home page) and recognize organization’s mission to "support, assist and promote the Department of Natural Resources."
  4. If a Web site is for a state park with camping, DNR recommends including a link to ReserveAmerica Web site for that park along with the toll-free phone number.
  5. DNR will provide official friends groups with copies of the DNR logo to include on their Web sites. The logo should not be altered in any way.
  6. Each friends group is encouraged to work with the property manager to ensure that information about the property and its programs is accurate before posting on the Web.
  7. Make the site accessible for people with disabilities.
  8. Avoid commercial advertising on the site. Tastefully presented information about items the organization sells to benefit the organization and DNR is appropriate.
  9. Avoid irrelevant or distracting graphics, especially animated ones.
  10. Friends groups and other partners are encouraged to work with DNR and share written information, photos, maps, event schedules that are appropriate for use on DNR Web pages.
